When deciding on a place to take your RV camping in Arizona, one of the biggest factors is most likely the location you want to visit. Often you’ll want to stay near a specific attraction or even a certain area. Campground availability, amenities, and overall cost are also important things to consider when choosing a place to park your RV in Arizona.

Arizona has a wide variety of camping locations available for those who are interested in bringing their home away from home along with them. Finding the best location will most likely depend on your preferences, but there are plenty of options. (Below is the campground at Sunset Crater National Park even though it’s not on our list in this article.)

Gilbert Ray Campground 

The Gilbert Ray Campground can be found in Tucson, Arizona. The location is well-known for being a beautiful location and is typically full during the winter while being empty during the summer. This campground is located within Tucson Mountain Park, giving an amazing view of a wide variety of cacti while still providing some privacy measures between campers.

The longest RV noted at this location was a 39-foot-long RV, which was a fifth wheel. The standard cost per night is usually $20, and reservations are required if you want to get a spot due to how busy it may get. The pads at each site are gravel, with 130 sites available throughout the grounds.

Amenities 

This location has 30 amp partial hookups available at each of the campsites. Along with this, they also provide each site with a picnic table and a fire pit that you are allowed to enjoy while visiting. 

Each site has a pull-thru option, allowing for easy maneuverability for RV owners. Along with this, they do provide a big rig if needed. Another feature this campground has is that they do allow pets on the premise.

One of the favorite parts of the campground for visitors, outside of the beautiful campground itself, is that a recreational trail is also located. Meaning you can spend the day hiking the trail before returning to the RV to sit around a campfire with everyone.

Campground Facilities 

Another important question for most RV owners is what other facilities are available at this location. They have a restroom with full plumbing, meaning you can flush rather than use a porta-potty.

You can also find recycling and trash bins throughout the grounds, and freshwater is available here. The campground does have a dump station as well, so you can empty your RV while visiting this location.

Twin Peaks Campground 

Twin Peaks Campground is located in Ajo, Arizona, surrounded by miles of cacti. This location is similar to the previous one because it is located in an open space. 

Despite the open area, it is easy to have privacy due to the tall shrubbery in the area and plentiful cacti. This location is a beautiful place to get a full view of either the sunrise or sunset, which provides an amazing photo opportunity. 

This campsite’s cost per night is $20, with concrete pads at each of the 208 sites available. The longest RV allowed at this location is a 40-foot-long RV. However, they have reported that a 42-foot Class A RV was able to access the campgrounds. Reservations are required due to this location’s high popularity, and you are allowed to stay for a max of 14 days. 

Amenities 

This location only has dry camping available, so you would not find any hookups here. However, they do provide each site with a fire ring and picnic table. They are allowing you to enjoy the amazing view of the stars while sitting around a fire. 

Each site also allows for RV’s to pull thru, helping eliminate some of the difficulty with getting in and out of your site. They also allow pets and have a recreation trail on the premise that you can enjoy at your convenience. 

Along with these, the location has a book exchange available. Make sure to request more information on this and any senior discounts that may be available before visiting the location. These senior discounts can often take the price down from $20 to $15 or even less depending on the campgrounds.

Twin Peaks does have full plumbing, meaning that the bathrooms are not porta-potties. Along with this, they have showers available on the grounds. This is great for any who either do not have showers in their RV’s or are possibly tired of the smaller showers that most RV’s tend to provide. 

Along with these, they also have recycled bins and regular trash bins on the grounds. You can also have access to water and the dump station at this location. Another perk to this campground is they have group sites available to those interested in them.

Rose Canyon Campground 

Rose Canyon Campground is located in Coronado National Forest within Mount Lemmon, Arizona. Mount Lemmon is a great location to visit if you are looking to escape the Arizona heat or if you just want to explore the mountains instead of the desert for a little while.

The cost for these grounds tends to vary around $10, but you can check the price ahead of time if you decide to make a reservation. The maximum length for RV’s is 22 feet, and it is important to make sure you get a site that is meant for RV’s and not for tent camping. There are 74 sites available, so you should be able to find one meant for RV’s available during your visit.

Amenities 

This location is dry camping only, meaning there are no hookups available for RV’s. However, the location itself makes up for not having access to any hookups, and the majority of visitors highly recommend this location despite that.

Each site does have access to a fire ring and picnic table, and pets are also allowed on the campgrounds. The sites themselves are dirt, so be sure to take note before visiting, as this may affect the ease of access for some RVs. 

Rose Canyon also has trails and fishing available either on site or nearby for any interested in these activities. The biggest perk to this location is that there are plenty of trails also available around and outside the grounds due to it being located in a National Forest. Along with this, there is also water access for any who want to enjoy the mountain water.

They do have limited facilities, which mainly means that only vaulted bathrooms are available on the campgrounds. There are also trash bins available to help prevent any visitors from leaving behind litter. You can also find water available on the grounds, a great perk compared to some locations that do not have this access.

Catalina State Park 

Catalina State Park is located in Tucson, Arizona, with the perfect view of the Santa Catalina mountains on the horizon. This campground doesn’t have cacti; instead, it provides some shorter trees in the area. Each of the sites tends to be spaced apart rather well, and the majority of visitors highly recommend this campground.

Prices for this campground may vary but are typically around $32 per night. While the sites do state that there are some gravel pads, there are also many concrete pads available. The longest RV that has been at this site was a 43-foot-long Class A, which found the site easy to maneuver due to the layout.

The campground provides a wide variety of hookup options to suit almost any RV owner’s needs. This includes 20, 30, and 50 Amp hookups along with partial and dry camping options. There are even water hookups available. Just be sure to book a site with the hookups you need.

Each campground has a big rig and pull-thru, making it easy for even large RVs to use this site. Along with this, every site has a fire ring and a picnic table available. These are perfect for relaxing after a long day and getting to enjoy the mountain range on the horizon.

You are allowed to bring pets to this campground, and the recreation trail is highly recommended. It is noted that it is perfect for all purposes. This can be anything from enjoying a morning walk to getting your bike out for a quick ride.

Catalina does have fully functioning bathrooms, as well as showers available on the grounds. These are great if you are trying to avoid having to dump your RV again before leaving. However, if you do need to empty it, there are dump stations provided on the campgrounds.

They do provide trash and recycle bins on the grounds, along with water available. The sites and facilities have been extremely clean, and many enjoy using them while stopping at this campground.

Bog Springs Campground 

Bog Springs Campground is a beautiful location off the road while still being a very well maintained location. It is located in Coronado National Forest in Green Valley, Arizona. While the journey up to the campgrounds may be somewhat difficult for longer vehicles, it may be well worth it for the view of the desert from above, surrounded by trees.

Bog Springs typically costs around $20 per night, with 13 campsites available to choose from. Not all sites will work well for longer RVs, and some may be a tighter squeeze depending on the size. While they do note that the maximum RV length should be 22 feet, it has been noted that a 41-foot-long RV has camped here as well.

Amenities 

Despite this location upgrading from dirt to paved pads, they are still limited to their amenities. This, unfortunately, means that only dry camping is available, but it is made up for by the amazing views around the campgrounds.

Each site has a fire ring and picnic table available and allows pets on the grounds. Many visitors say they enjoy this campground so much due to the great view on the grounds and all the great hiking trails nearby. 

There are trails available at the site, but there is even more right outside the grounds. Easy trail access makes it easy for visitors to walk from the campgrounds over to these trails as well, allowing for more activities if you are interested in staying longer than a night or two.

Bog Springs does have a vault bathroom available, and many have noted that it is one of the cleanest and well-kept bathrooms they’ve experienced, which is extremely important when it comes to these styles of bathrooms.

Along with having access to a bathroom, trash bins and water available on the grounds help prevent anyone from leaving trash behind. The overall upkeep of the site is well done, making it a highly recommended location by many. 

Sunny Flat Campground 

Sunny Flat Campground is located inside of Coronado National Forest in San Simon, Arizona. This is an amazing location due to the surrounding canyon’s great scenery and extremely peaceful due to the remote location. You should be sure to note the cell service is nearly nonexistent here, so you would need to either go to the visitor center or nearby library if you need any Wi-Fi. 

Reservations for this location are not required, and many find that they end up moving their RV if a better spot opens up. Be sure to note that there are only 13 spots available, so you may want to call ahead to check if any are open. The price is typically around $10, but the price does vary, and there are senior discounts available. 

Due to the location, this campground only allows 22-foot-long RV’s. However, it has been noted that a 28-foot travel trailer has been able to maneuver through the grounds. Each site is also asphalt, so you will not have to be concerned about ending up with a gravel pad.

Amenities 

Amenities are simple at this location, as you may be able to tell from the limited space mentioned above. Due to this, they do not have any hookups available, so you would have to be alright with dry camping while visiting. 

They do allow for pets on the grounds and also provide a fire ring and picnic table. Be sure to check if fires are allowed at the time, as this may change depending on the year’s time. Some visitors have noted that the owner said you are allowed to gather firewood. Be sure to check before you do so, as this may change.

Another perk to this location is that they do have a wide variety of trails. While they may not all be onsite, there are plenty nearby as well. Due to the campsite being in a canyon, hiking here is highly recommended, and you can fully enjoy a wide variety of wildlife.

Sunny Flat does not have full plumbing available, but they do have vault restrooms on the campgrounds that you are allowed to use. Along with this, they do have water available as well and trash bins for you to use.

Due to the remote location, there are limited facilities. However, many find this appealing due to the location making up for any lack in other areas.

Palm Canyon 

Palm Canyon is located in Quartzsite, Arizona, within Kofa National Wildlife Refuge. It is well known for how amazing the sunsets are, along with the beautiful view of the mountains on the horizon. If you are looking for a peaceful location away from crowds, then this is where you’ll find it. 

The main thing to note about this location is that it is free. However, depending on the season, access may become somewhat difficult. The longest RV noted at this site was a 44-foot-long RV, and there is no limit on length overall. This campground is a dirt road with multiple pull-offs for anyone interested in staying there overnight. 

Amenities 

Since this isn’t a fully equipped site, the amenities available are extremely limited. However, most visitors find that such a beautiful location that is free makes up for any other areas that may be lacking. The sites do provide a big rig, which is the bulk of the amenities available.

This is a dry camping area, but it does have dispersed camping available as well. While fire pits are not provided, you may be able to have one as long as the area allows it. Be sure to check before visiting, as this may change during dry seasons.

Unfortunately, this location does not provide any facilities, which means if you stay here, you would need to live off what your RV provides. You must be sure to clean up your grounds before leaving despite the lack of available trash bins.

White Tank Mountain Regional Park 

The White Tank Mountain Regional Park can be found in Waddell, Arizona. This is a well-maintained campground, with a beautiful view of the natural Arizona wildlife. There are cacti and similar plant life in the area, along with an amazing night sky due to the location.

This RV park’s typical cost is around $32, with the maximum length RV, allowed being 45 feet long. The pads are gravel but are well maintained while keeping the overall natural ambiance of the area. Reservations are required, and there are 40 sites available at this location.

Amenities 

As you may tell from the cost, there are plenty of amenities available at this campground. There are 20, 30, and 50 Amp hookups along with partial hookups being available. If you are interested in dry camping, then you can do this as well. There are also water hookups. Just make sure to make note that you are reserving a site with one.

Pets are available on the grounds, and there are plenty of recreational activities to enjoy. These activities include a trail that will allow you to explore the wildlife of the area more. There is also a picnic area on the campgrounds and even a playground for children to enjoy, making it a great location for families to visit.

At each site, you will also have access to a picnic table and fire ring. This allows for the perfect opportunity to sit around the fire and even cook some food to enjoy while appreciating any cities’ escape.

White Tank does have fully functional plumbing, meaning you can enjoy toilets that do flush. Along with this, they do have showers on the grounds for any visitors to enjoy. There is also water available for visitors, along with trash bins. 

This campground does have a dump station available, which is great if you are coming from a more remote location that doesn’t have one on the premises. Another feature available is that there are group sites here if you are interested in one.

Los Burros Campground 

Los Burros Campground is located in the Apache-Sitgreaves National Forest, meaning tall trees surround it. This location is down a long gravel road and well away from any large cities or towns, providing a great opportunity to escape into the wilderness for a while.

This is another free campsite with the host onsite being a volunteer themselves. The overall upkeep of the location is managed by the National Forest and tends to be kept up rather well. It is important to note that while 40-foot RVs can access the camp, not all sites will fit them. Along with this, the road to the campgrounds is dirt, so it may sometimes be damaged, meaning larger RVs would have to move slower.

Despite this, many say that by the time they leave again, the park has taken care of the road. The main thing to note about this location is that it is only open from May to October, and there are ten sites available. 

Amenities 

This is a free location, so they do not have as many amenities as others, but they still have several due to the National Forest keeping it maintained. This location does not have hookups, meaning you would need to dry camp while visiting.

Each site has a fire ring and picnic table, just be sure to note if you are allowed to have fires while visiting. Along with this, they do have a picnic area and plenty of trails nearby for anyone interested in exploring the forest more.

Despite these grounds being free, they do have a volunteer who can assist visitors. Many have said that they are extremely helpful and great to turn to if you have any questions.
